A symptom of what is the bleeding from the nose

Sometimes, with no apparent cause /trauma, recent surgery, etc./, may occur bleeding from the nose, anus, urinary tract and vagina. In some cases the bleeding may be accidental.

The nose may start to bleed, for example, after a long exposure to sunlight, intense stress and change in atmospheric pressure for divers, pilots and so on. But often, however, it is an indication of a disease, so the nose bleeding is one of the symptoms of the disease. There may be various inflammations due to infections, tumors, high blood pressure, anemia, various vascular disorders and many other conditions.

An indication of a specific health problem may be the frequent and prolonged duration of the bleeding, as well as possible impurities – secretion or pus. The frequent runny nose, for example, may cause the lining to become thinner so the blood vessels on the surface may become vulnerable and easy to crack even when sneezing.

Bleeding may occur also due to physical or mental effort, as well as from exhaustion. Nose bleeding may be caused also by leukemia or reduced platelets, Vitamin C and Vitamin K defficiency.

If the bleeding is caused by tumor formations – benign or malignant, bleeding from the nose or from the sinuses are due to the developed tumor tissue or by pressure on the adjacent tissues. Then the blood has an unpleasant odor.

The nose bleeding may start suddenly, or may be preceded by vertigo, tinnitus and headache. In order to stop it you should press the nostrils for at least 5 minutes in a sitting position, breathing through the mouth, and the head should be inclined slightly forward. You can use tampons or apply a compress with ice on the nose. If the bleeding does not stop for more than 10 minutes, medical rhinoscopy of the nose cavity will be required in order to find the source of bleeding, hemostatic agents may be applied, and if needed – a surgery may be performed. Of course, in the event of heavy bleeding you should immediately seek the help of a physician.

What are the risks in case of bleeding from the anus, urinary tract and the vagina

The anal bleeding may be accompanied by abdominal pain, mucus in the stools and pain, fatigue, loss of weight and other symptoms.

The causes may be problems with the blood circulation, digestion problems, parasites and infections, cancer, hemorrhoids, etc. Therefore, the anal bleeding may be an indication that a serious illness is developing, so medical help should be sought, even after the bleeding has stopped for a few days.  The hemorrhoids, for example, occur due to varicose veins. The bleeding may be caused also by intestinal polyps – benign formations, which, however, may become malignant.

A serious problem causing bleeding from the anus is cancer of the colon. Over time, the bleeding mixed with mucus, increases, constipation occurs, and brown secretions can be seen in the stools.

Another “warning” with regard to the anal bleeding is  for possible intestinal infection, for example, dysentery. Then the condition is combined with nausea, vomiting, fever and thinner stools.

In order to diagnose the condition and determine it among the various possible illnesses, full medical examinations are required:

  • laparoscopy /of the stomach and intestines/
  • colonoscopy /of the colon/
  • rectoscopy / for hemorrhoids, anal fissures, etc.

In the allopathic medicine the treatment is executed according to the established specific condition – hemorrhoids, stomach ulcers, colitis, colon problems, hemorrhages in the stomach and intestines, and so on.

The vaginal bleeding that is not related to the menstruation, is common. It may not be due to illness, but may be caused, for example, by rough sex or contraceptive implants. But it may be an indication of various health problems – placental tumors, vaginal inflammations, radiation disease, ectopic pregnancy, ovarian cysts, myoma, hormonal disorders when the ovaries release more male hormones and so on.

Infections and inflammations may affect the vagina, uterus, cervix or the fallopian tubes and ovaries. The symptoms are discomfort and burning sensations in the genital area, as well as a change in the consistency and color of the vaginal fluids.

Other causes of the vaginal bleeding may be also chronic diseases such as diabetes, and increased thyroid activity. The tumor formations may affect the fallopian tubes, ovaries, vagina and uterus. The many possible causes of this type of bleeding require a complete medical examination, as the echography is a must in order to check for organic causes of the condition.

The treatment in the Western medicine is according to the specific illness. For example, in a sexually transmitted disease, antibiotics are prescribed; in case of cysts – hormonal therapy or surgery are applied, and surgery is required upon ectopic pregnancy and so on.

The most common cause of bleeding from the urinary tract are infections of the kidneys or of urinary tract, but the cause may be cancer or other. Urological examinations will determine the type of the treatment.

Treatment with the help of Ayurveda

Ayurveda associates the bleeding mainly with disturbances in the Pitta energy, but it may be caused also by imbalances of the other two Doshas – Vata and Kapha.

These are the human vital energies, as each one of them is responsible for the activity of a certain part of the systems in the organism and the related organs. The Doshas are set for all people in harmony, as they are in a unique proportion in every person. If one of these vital energies goes out of balance, the systems and organs that are controlled by it begin to function improperly and thus diseases occur. The Ayurvedic treatment is focused on the restoration of the harmony between these three forces, so the organism can function properly as it is determined by nature.

When the bleeding is caused by imbalance of Pitta, the blood is purple-black in color, dark, it can flow both from the upper and lower openings of the body. When the bleeding is caused by imbalance of Vata – the blood is foamy and watery, dark red, quickly dries. Generally it flows from the lower openings – the anus and the urinary tract. When the bleeding is caused by imbalance of Kapha, the blood is thick, oily, a little bit colorless, may be mixed with mucus. This type of bleeding is characteristic of the upper openings – nose, mouth, ears, eyes.

To balance each Dosha and to stop the specific type of bleeding, Ayurveda recommends certain types of foods; herbal formulas and oils for pouring and specific massages; methods to cleanse the toxins, as well as yoga practice.

With regard to Pitta, for example, the hot, sour and spicy foods are not recommended, as well as the fermented ones; with regard to Vata are recommended the warm, fluid, fatty and heavier foods, as they have to be cooked. In order to balance Kapha, it is important the food to be fresh, light and warm, and cooked; the raw and cold foods should be avoided.
