What is Maharishi Ayurveda?
Maharishi Ayurveda, also called Maharishi Vedic medicine or Maharishi Vedic approach to health, is a type of alternative medicine that occurs in the mid-80s of the last century, and it is different from the conventional medicine. When the connection between body and consciousness is disturbed, then the disease appears. Maharishi Ayurveda comes from Advaita Vedanta – a school of philosophy of the Hinduism, which represents the comprehensiveness of the traditional healing methods of Ayurveda.
This relatively new type of medicine is created by the religious figure Maharishi Yogi, who is also the founder of the transcendental meditation. Maharishi Yogi started working with top Ayurveda experts in India in the 70-ies of the last century, ad he manages to revive and systemize the Ayurveda medicine, as well other branches of the Vedic science in its most authentic form and in accordance with the original Vedic texts.
The healing methods of Maharishi Ayurveda include yoga performed in combination with transcendental meditation and yoga asanas, Jyotish – astrology, Gandharva Veda – music and other Vedic disciplines that are believed to be vital for the prevention and therapy of various of diseases, according to the ancient Ayurvedic texts.
Maharishi Vedic medicine includes 40 healing approaches in total, and each one of them is based on all 40 branches of the Vedic literature. The former American psychiatrist Stephen Brett describes 20 approaches of Maharishi Ayurveda in “Alternative medicine and ethics„.
The purpose of the healing program of Maharishi Ayurveda is to build healthy individuals and the development of such a society where diseases don’t exist. Its complete aspect contains 20 elements:

Each of these methods of treatment is performed under the supervision of an experienced Ayurveda doctor or therapist. The traditional Vaidya offers individual treatment for every patient, giving him recommendations on how to apply the special healing methods, appropriate for the specifics of his condition. In contrast, Maharishi Ayurveda provides easily accessible universal methods.
Through the resurgence of this ancient health system, thousands of people around the world have the chance to find effective cure.
Maharishi Ayurveda includes all kinds of therapies that are recommended in the ancient texts. The therapies are approved in accordance with the high standards for control, and sometimes are applied more advanced technologies compared to Ayurveda. Their efficacy is proven by detailed scientific researches in India, Europe and America.
Unlike the traditional Ayurveda medicine, which is based mostly on healing therapies applied externally, the main focus of Maharishi Ayurveda is on the role of consciousness on the health and the importance of positive emotions. The followers of Maharishi Ayurveda believe that diseases can be cured by a process of connection of the psyche with the inner intelligence of the body, which eliminates all harmful imbalances and contaminations, due to which the diseases occur. They believe that by creating the Maharishi Ayurveda, the religious leader Maharishi Yogi revives one forgotten ancient Vedic health system.
Maharishi Ayurveda uses an innovative model for the interpretation of health and diseases, totally different from that of conventional medicine. The medical researcher of Maharishi Vedic medicine Harry Sharmi, believes that Maharishi Ayurveda sees the human body as an abstract model of intelligence, while the modern medicine sees it as a type of machine. He claims that the way the world perceives the Maharishi’s Vedic approach to health, is similar to that described by physicians in the 20th century. In Maharishi Ayurveda, health is in direct connection with the consciousness of the person and his emotions. Positive emotions help to relieve the symptoms. The metaphysical and pure power of the consciousness has its own vibrations, the effect of which affects the material universe.
The transcendental meditation is part of the methods of Maharishi Ayurveda, and it is a way to achieve full physical and mental health. It has been applied by top Ayurveda specialists around the world, in the treatment of world famous stars, politicians and even presidents.
