Sweet is heavy, sour is moist, salty is warm, bitter is cold, sharp taste is hot, and astringent is dry. Foods with dosha-like qualities will increase it, while food with dosha-opposite qualities will reduce it and we must strive for balance.

Ayurveda also prescribes to eat these flavors in a certain order, from sweet to astringent. This means eating sweets first to feel satisfied and digest food properly. Lack of all 6 flavors can lead to hunger, weight gain, lack of energy and illness.

Here are some helpful recipes for your daily menu:

Fruit Salad


  • 1 pc. apple, orange, banana, kiwi.
  • A handful of grapes without seeds or pomegranates
  • Honey or yogurt

Method of preparation:

Cut the fruit into large cubes and the banana into circles. Mix the fruit and pour honey or yogurt.

Baked apples


  • 2-3 pcs. apples
  • raisins
  • Nuts
  • Sour cream on request
  • honey to taste
  • Butter to spread the form

Method of preparation:

Peel 2-3 apples and cut them into cubes. Place in a baking dish pre-greased with vegetable oil or refined ghee. Add dried fruits and nuts, pour sour cream if desired. Bake in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for 30 minutes. Allow to cool slightly, then pour in the honey.



  • 200 g of basmati rice
  • 200 g mung beans
  • 1 tablespoon purified ghee oil
  • 6 glasses of water (1200 ml)

Spices: grated ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom, black pepper, bay leaf, salt, coriander

Method of preparation:

Soak rice and mung beans in water overnight or for at least 4 hours. Heat a large, thick-walled saucepan, add the ghee and fry in it a tablespoon of ground ginger, two bay leaves and the remaining spices. Fry the spices for 1-2 minutes.

Add the washed rice and mung beans, salt and stir. Pour water, bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and cook until the beans are soft and the water has completely evaporated. Sprinkle the finished dish with chopped parsley or coriander or parsley.

  • 2 tomatoes
  • 2 eggplants
  • 2 zucchini
  • 2 peppers
  • 100 ml. vegetable oil

Method of preparation:

Cut all vegetables into slices. Place the products in a baking dish, arranging them one by one, add oil, sprinkle with spices. If desired, you can add grated cheese. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes. Sprinkle spices on the finished dish.

  • 500 g pumpkin
  • Celery
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 tomato
  • 50 ml. vegetable oil
  • Spices to taste

Method of preparation:

Cut all vegetables into large cubes, place in a baking dish, add spices, salt to taste, pour vegetable oil and stir. Put in a preheated oven or slow cooker for 30-40 minutes, until fully cooked.
