Khichadi (Moogdal and Rice)
Dal khichdi dish is an all-time favourite in many Indian home.
It is one of the most healthy & delicious dishes.
It can be had by all prakruti i.e vata, pitta and kapha & doesn’t disturb the balance of doshas. It is kind of traditional recipes that are used in Indian kitchen if someone is not feeling well and digestion is weak
- 500 gm. Basmati Rice.
- 400 gm. Moogdal (green gram) spilt.
- 2 tbsp.. or 10 gram turmeric powder
- 4 gm. Hing (asafoetida) or as per taste/ pungent , spicy taste of dish depens upon content of hing during preparation.
- 5 gm. Himalaya salt
- 20 gm. ghee (clarified butter)
- 500 ml water.
- 5 gm. jeera. (Cumin)
Pour rice & dal in mixing bowl, wash and clean together.
Add ghee in pressure cooker, put jeera (Cumin), cook under low flame until this splutter , and then mix onion and tomato & garlic .
Add turmeric & salt & mix well.
Add rice and dal after removing water to pressure cooker.
Mix well all the ingredients & water
Water to be added about the rice level.
Cook till the mixture gets thick.
Add ghee and top of the mixture if needed.
Consistency of khichadi can be your choice by less or more water.
Usually it is semisolid in state.
It is to be cooked on low flame for 6 to 7 whistles.
Preparation time 30 min.
Cooking time 10 min.
Total time 40 min.
Serving 2 – 3 peoples.
